I am a moderator at homebrew.stackexchange.com and have the highest reputation here on alcohol.stackexchange.com. The question about making moonshine should stay on alcohol and not be moved to homebrew. Can you explain why it was moved?

How to brew moonshine?

I'll let @JamieEltringham answer authoritatively since he moved it, but I suspect that since it had been cross-posted and answered over there already, it was moved so that it could be more correctly closed as a dupe. – Xander Aug 21 '19 at 15:01
  • I have been thinking about this for a while and I wonder if we need to change things up a bit. We really should separate these two groups into manufacturing and consuming. Put all the alcohol production in one group and consuming and enjoyment into another. The lines are very blurry between the two and I wonder if we need better delineation. – farmersteve Aug 21 '19 at 17:13
  • That would certainly make sense to me. I'd be in favor of it. – Xander Aug 21 '19 at 17:29
  • I was going with the understanding that homebrewing was about brewing and from my understanding of the question he was directly asking how to brew he wasn't asking anything other than how to brew and where to get equipment that seemed to me more like a something a stack about brewing would answer but if people are wanting to keep it, im happy to listen to your thoughts – Jamie Eltringham Aug 22 '19 at 11:13
  • and as for the migration yes i migrated so it could be closed as a duplicate as it seemed the original question on the homebrewing stack gave him the answers he needed – Jamie Eltringham Aug 22 '19 at 11:15
  • Well, I looked at the descriptions for homebrew and the alcohol stacks and all Homebrew says is it's for "Homebrewing" and I think was originally meant for beer brewing, but now includes wine and mead. But is production oriented. Alcohol is about "Beer, wine and Spirits" nothing about production or enjoyment. Like I mentioned it gets fuzzy between the two and I know from dealing with other stacks how anal people get about questions asked so I am wondering if we need a cleaner delineation between the two stacks? Production vs. Enjoyment? – farmersteve Aug 22 '19 at 17:06
  • yes i agree, we do need to decide a correct definition of the two stacks as the two can work together extremely well if we get some clear definition of the questions on the site so everyone know where to go for the answers for the questions they have – Jamie Eltringham Aug 23 '19 at 8:18
  • Earlier in this site's history (then called Beer), Homebrewing was only about beer and only about home production, so larger-scale production like craft breweries and anything about producing other types of alcohol was off-topic there and on-topic here. Homebrewing is allowed to change its scope, but that needn't force changes here -- site A can't declare things off-topic on site B. I'm not saying anyone's doing that, to be clear. We should figure out how to get all the stakeholders together for a thoughtful discussion of scope on both sites. – Monica Cellio Aug 23 '19 at 23:22
  • I'm relatively new to the moderator role. How can we have meeting of the minds? Homebrew fields mostly production questions while alcohol fields questions all over the place from production to storage to enjoyment to selling. – farmersteve Aug 24 '19 at 2:29
  • As a mod over at Homebrewing I would be happy to open up homebrewing to all booze production questions and leave you all to field the booze consumption questions. – Mr_road Aug 28 '19 at 13:44
  • thesquaregroot asked the same question over on the homebrew meta. homebrew.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/470/… – farmersteve Sep 19 '19 at 20:11
